Very happy to recommend Phil, in the UK!
He offered me a free set of cables to try on my suffering ST4s that I'd documented on a FB page.
The cables DID help but a failing Sprag clutch was the real culprit...
Apparently there are TWO slightly different types of starter kits for the SS/SL series as detailed below:
www.facebook.com/customstartercables/
"Latest batch of 900SS/SL later wiring variant which uses the 'connector block' arrangement (chassis no 016055 onwards) now available
The factory cable from the connector block to the solenoid is removed, how Ducati could justify putting starter current through what is basically a spade terminal is incredulous! The replacement runs above the original battery positive (use the original boot) direct to the solenoid. The battery earth runs to the frame earth to the right of the airbox (used on earlier 900 wiring variants where the battery is reversed) and from them an additional cable runs down the frame, over the clutch basket to the crankcase earth, removing the requirement for the footrest to crankcase earth. All in 110A copper cable, copper busbar for battery termination and copper lugs crimped to 8 tons. Includes the M6 frame screw and brass nut and washer for the starter motor. New boots for solenoid and starter
Ducati 900SS/SL uprated Custom Starter Cable kits. £50 inc post to UK. £53 to Europe. £57 to Australia etc.
Earlier kits (pre 016055) also available at the same price
See video of my own bike which hadn't been started in 3 years (video states 2, this was wrong)"
Not sure how to embed videos (yet) so hopefully here is sweet link:
